When beginning a new game, only a few topics will be available. As you go through your game you will unlock new topics to research. Researching a new topic cost 10 research points.

Starting Topic Variation[]
Since version 1.4.0, the order of all topics are randomized, whereas up to version 1.3.9, the starting 8 topics were always the same. This means that the topics that you can choose at the start of the game are totally random, which can make a game much more challenging when starting with only niche topics.
